Going camping is one of my families great pleasures. We camp three to four times a year at various camp grounds near our home. We even have a weekend camp out in the backyard every summer. Camping is a great way to unplug the kids and introduce them to nature as well as get away from the stress of work and everyday life. The look of dismay and annoyance on the kids faces when we inform them that for one whole week they will not have any TV, cell phones, or video games always brings a smile to my face. What warms my heart more is when the kids realize that the “real world” can be just as much fun. The creativity that flows from them as they invent new games with the other kids around us in the camp grounds is awesome. The look on their face when the catch a fish, the absolute joy they feel when the fiddler crab they caught won the race. The kids have just forgot that TV even exsists.
One thing to consider when taking the family camping is the tent. You will need a tent big enough to sleep all members of your group comfortably. For instance I have a family of 5, but we have a 7 man tent. We all fit with room to spare, we have space to store our gear to keep it dry. You should also consider what kind of weather you will be encountering. Will your tent handle the worst mother nature throws at you? Consider how the frame of the tent is contructed as well as the base. How many stakes are needed to hold the tent down. Always carry a few extra. What condition are the tents ropes
in. And you must also consider weight, how far do you have to carry the tent, maybe a couple of smaller tents are what you need.
Just a few things to consider, I hope this article finds you ready to go camping.
