One of our favorite campgrounds is on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Located in Cheriton, Virginia Cherrystone is a family friendly campground. With over 300 acres of RV hook ups, Cabins and tent sites, there is room for types of campers. The campground has 24 hour security, mostly to keep our kids in, which we found to be a blessing. Everyone on the staff has been friendly and courteous. We have been camping here 7 times over the last 5 years, and will be going over and over again.
The campground boast 4 swimming pools, one dedicated just for adults and a new water park, I have not seen yet but have a trip planned in august, stay tuned for an update on that, One of the pools is a wading pool for the smaller campers and there are two pools that a the deep end are about 8 feet. Next to the pools are my kids favorite game, Water Wars, a sling shot based game that hurls water balloons at the opposing team and is a great way to keep your group entertained. The adult pool is not located near the main swimming pools, it is located near the beach, and bait shop, so those of you who do not have any kids or have raised them and moved them along, can enjoy a nice quiet dip without all the hubbub of the kids.
I mentioned the bait shop, well I love to fish and Cherrystone offers 4 piers to fish and crab from. The water is not very deep 4-7 feet depending on tide, but at night some Trout and croaker can be found. The crabbing is usually pretty good. Cherrystone is located on the Chesapeake Bay and a boat launch is not far in Cape Charles or at Kiptopeake State Park. There is a fish cleaning and a place to wash your boat or RV.
The campground has it own restaurant The Little Neck Cafe, the food is fried, but the ice cream is soft serve and a blessing on a hot day. Behind the cafe is an arcade where most of my money goes, like I said very kid friendly. The laundry mat is located just behind the arcade.
The bath houses are some of the best I have seen in a large campground. They are located so you wont have far to walk to get to one. They are large enough you wont have to wait to take a shower no matter what time of day you go.
There are numerous activities every day, arts and crafts, fiddler crab races, ect. Each night there is some form of entertainment for the family at the pavilion, movies, karaoke, bands its all there for your entertainment.
The price is reasonable for what you get and we will be going for many years to come.
